In this 8 hour Continuing Education course for Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapists, we will:

-Explore how Neuromuscular Massage Therapy can help to relieve TMJD symptoms;

-Identify the indications and contraindications of working with TMJD

-Recognize trauma considerations and the importance of respectful, and gentle therapy techniques when addressing the vulnerable tissues of the mouth; 

-Learn the anatomy and physiology and Trigger-point pain referral patterns of the affected muscles that contribute to the dysfunction;

-Learn Neuromuscular Massage techniques to address the fascial and muscular tension that contribute to TMJ;  

-Hands-on Practice - giving and receiving a one hour TMJD Focus Massage incorporating Neuromuscular Massage techniques with at least one partner;

-Discuss other available therapies and the importance of knowing when to refer to other healthcare providers when necessary;

Learning Outcome:

Students will demonstrate proficiency in treating TMJD with Neuromuscular Massage techniques and be prepared to do so with a 50 to 60 minute TMJD Focus Massage Protocol.
