Ethics - Clear Connections Through Jungian Shadow Work in Greensboro
with Lydia Ritenour

Ethics - Clear Connections Through Jungian Shadow
Instructor: Lydia Ritenour, NMT, LMBT #10433
In this 3 hour Ethics continuing education course for licensed massage therapists we will:
• Exploring Carl Jung's concept of the Shadow, and how it relates to the therapeutic relationship we maintain with our massage clients. "The Shadow is that part of us we fail to see or know." - Robert A. Johnson.
• Discover and explore our own shadow, in an attempt to free ourselves from the control our shadow can exert over our actions and reactions to others. This relates to Ethics because we can cast our shadow onto others around us, and see them in an unfair, negative light if we have not cleared or don't continually work to clear our own anger, or limiting beliefs we hold.
• Examine the effect the shadow can have as the root cause for such ethical issues as projection, transference, counter-transference and boundary violations.
• Learn and discuss the aspects of the therapeutic relationship
• Explore Shadow Work journaling prompts as a way to become more neutral and client-focused massage therapists.
Please come with an open mind and ready for a lively and interactive discussion!
Learning Outcomes:
• Students will demonstrate an understanding of the components of the therapeutic relationship.
• Students will learn to use Shadow Work journaling prompts as a tool to examine theirselves and work to become more neutral, client-focused therapists.
